Making plans for our 20th Anniversary trip. In 1991, we went to New Orleans for our honeymoon. I bought the book on the left for the trip. Now, 20 years later, the new Fodor's will guide us through the Big Easy in a trip down memory lane. Looking forward to some good eating...

Haciendo planes para nuestro viaje celebrando nuestro vigésimo aniversario. En 1991, fuimos a Nueva Orleans para nuestra luna de miel. Compré el libro a la izquierda para ese viaje. I got in trouble when I first took a similar image on Monday. A sheriff deputy saw me taking pictures of the City County Building, and he said that if I didn't have written permission, then because of Homeland Security issues I'd have to erase the files in his presence. Went back today (with email permissions from Public Safety Dept., Mayor's Office and City County Council) and took the pictures, which will be used for the revised League of Women's Voters Unigov Handbook.

Me metí en un lío tomando una foto muy parecida el lunes. Un policía del departmento del sheriff me vio tomando fotos del Edificio de la Ciudad-Condado, y me dijo que a menos de que tuviera permiso por escrito tendría que borrar las imágines en su presencia, por cuestiones de "Homeland Security."  Regresé hoy (con permisos electrónicos del Departamento de Seguridad Pública, Oficina del Alcalde, Concilio de la Ciudad-Condado) y tomé fotos, las cuales se publicarán en el Manual de Unigov de la Liga de Mujeres Votantes.

Recording the VBS songs for this summer in Spanish. I am at Paul's home. He graciously produces our VBS songs. He and Jim have written over 10 original songs for our bilingual VBS materials. I translate the songs and sing en español. (Camera was on a tripod, on self timer)

Iglesia Nueva Creación / New Creation Church celebrated its third anniversary by celebrating Three Kings Day. In Latin American countries, that is an important day (Epiphany, January 6) when kids get presents. The church invited community members, and we had upwards of 170 (maybe more?) adults and kids. This boy was quickly returning to his seat after selecting this Sponge Bob Square Pants (Round) Ball.

Iglesia Nueva Creación / New Creation Church celebró su tercer aniversario celebrando Día de Reyes. En paises latinoamericanos, este es un día importante (Epifanía, Enero 6) cuando niños/as reciben regalos. La iglesia invitó a miembros de al comunidad, y tuvimos más de 170 (quizá más?) adultos y niños/as. Este niño estaba regresando rápidamente a su mesa después de haber escogido esta pelota (redonda) de "Bob Esponja Pantalones Cuadrados."

Walking Riley this morning. I like the movement in this picture, partly because it makes it look like Riley is walking fast (which mostly he doesn't). On the left, I am holding his retractable leash while wearing a black glove.

He is either a pack rat or helping a friend move. Probably the latter, since he was following a pick up truck equally loaded down. Too bad I wasn't able to pull next to him at a stop light for the picture. The passenger seat looked as bad as the back seat.

(Safety note: I was stopped at a left turn lane when I took this picture. I had followed him for about three miles until I could be stopped behind him at a light to take the shot. Lucky for me, I didn't drive too far out of my way.)

Este tipo o bien no puede deshacerse de posesiones o está ayudando a un amigo a mudarse. Probablemente lo segundo, ya que seguía a una camioneta igualmente cargada. Lástima que no pude ponerme a un lado de él en un semáforo para tomar la foto. El asiento del pasajero se veía igual que el asiento trasero.

(Nota de seguridad: Estaba parado en un carril de voltear a la izquierda cuando tomé la foto. Lo había seguido por unos cinco kilómetros hasta que nos paramos en un semáforo y pude tomar la foto. De suerte no me desvié mucho de a dónde iba)

My year in pictures

I've been taking pictures since I was 8 years old (my brother Héctor bought me a disposable camera that used 35mm film). Pictures are like a window into my life. When I take a picture I take a small step back and witness my very own experiences in new ways. Mostly my pictures document my family's life, but other times they're shots of what I find beautiful and captivating (like the picture serving as background for this blog).

Tracy my wife mentioned in passing that someone was doing a blog where they will be posting a picture every day of 2011. I've seen that kind of thing done before. I thought that it sounded like a good idea and I'd give it a try too. Doesn't hurt that Santa just got me the Nikon 300s to replace my 70s (I helped Santa by saving for it for about a year).

The plan is to post one picture per day, according to when the picture was taken.

So join me in this journey. Hope you enjoy seeing the pictures as much as I enjoy taking them.

He tomado fotos desde los 8 años (mi hermano Héctor me compró una cámara desechable que usaba rollos de 35 mm). Fotos son como una ventana a mi vida. Cuando tomo una foto doy un paso atras y soy testigo de mis propias experiencias en una nueva forma. En su mayoría, mis fotos documentan la vida de mi familia, pero otras veces mis fotos son de lo que me parece hermoso o que capta mi imaginación (como la foto en el trasfondo de este blog).

Mi esposa Trcay mencionó casualmente que alguien estaba haciendo un blog donde subirían una foto cada día del 2011. He visto ese tipo de cosa antes. Pensé que sonaba como una buena idea y decidí tratarlo. Aparte de que Santa me acababa de traer la Nikon 300s para reemplazar mi 70s (yo le ayudé a Santa ahorrando por casi un año).

El plan es de subir una foto por día, de acuerdo a cuando la tomé.

Vengan y viajen conmigo. Espero disfruten ver las fotos tanto como yo disfruto tomarlas.
